TOMORROWLOUNGE GUESS - O - RAMA #1 ANSWER
You may have been inside here once!!
Well? How did everyone do? For those of you that played, and posted or e-mailed me their answer, we didn't have any "direct hits" but Christopher came the closest. Christopher also brought up the fact I had accidentally titled the image which could be visible--but I quickly fixed it.
Anyway, the answer to the very first "TOMORROWLOUNGE IMAGE GUESS-O-RAMMA" is..............................................................................................................................................
The 1967 Disneyland "Carousel of Progress" speedramp to Progress City room -cavity-----chamber room place -area thingy space as left inside AMERICA SINGS! You ALL should have know that!!
WELCOME TO PROGRESS CITY!!!
It's odd that such a large space was left inside after the Carousel of Progress vacated Disneyland. You can see where the top of the SPEEDRAMP space has been floored over and all the neat WED special effects have been removed (except the electrical!) Oh------and the SPEEDRAMP is gone too!
Come on everyone!! Don't stand in the way of PROGRESS!
So colorful.........so bright and warm........so welcoming.........
I must walk into the light......!
So close-------I hear happy marching music..........
WED Imagineers knew how to do things right back in 1967. The Carousel of Progress was like enjoying a
six course meal and then finding out there was a "Great Big Beautiful" dessert right after! Well, right after you rode the SPEEDRAMP to the top!
As a very small boy ( 4 or 5 years old) I have a few fleeting memories of seeing parts of the Carousel of Progress show........but I have VERY STRONG memories of seeing Progress City! I was enthralled with it! I remember siting on my dad's shoulders so I could see everything! I remember seeing the PeopleMover passing behind us, and I remember the audience reaction of AWE when "Grandma's and Grandpa's" plane took off into the sky leaving Progress City (I cannot recall if the plane was a projection or a actual model.........) It's great to know that part of Progress City survives in Walt Disney World, but it's sad it remains as a static, reduced -non-animated display. I guess you really can't stand in the way of "Progress".
original 1967 -1973 Progress City
The photograph that was the subject of the First TOMORROWLOUNGE GUESS-O-RAMA was taken just several days prior to the AMERICA SINGS "Swinging Carousel Theater" gutting. AND............that's the next subject of the next series of TOMORROMLOUNGE MEGA POSTS ; AMERICA SINGS and the last days of the Musical Joyride to Musicland U.S.A.!!!
Now be prepared, because in these posts to follow you will see some things that will bring back warm happy memories.......but you'll also see some very very sad and depressing images. So be warned, but please feel free to sing and clap along with our animal performers!!

Mike, It really is a fascinating photo once you know where it was taken! I'm assuming a doorway or opening was left to gain access to this space when they were boarding it up. Where was the opening to get into this space?
It was right behind the entry Act stage of America Sings I recall. The entire theater features service catwalks that lead to access doors of each scene. The one behind the entry Act theater was once the end/exit theater of the Carousel of Progress so it had no catwalk, but a fully completed floor. The SpeedRamp room was partial cut-off at it's mouth and a wood railing was build at the front of the remaining opening--that room was a total open shaft up until the gutting of the building in the mid 1990's
Wow, that photo is pretty amazing. I'm way behind on the America Sings posts, time to get caught up.
